Now you can cruise
to a part of the planet where few have trod before. An area
so remote that it’s nearest neighbor, Ecuador, is 600
miles away, and where nearly half the species are found nowhere
else in the world.
Owned by Ecuador since 1832, these far flung islands comprising
13 major islands, 8 smaller islands and 40 islets, are lauded
as one of the world’s greatest natural history treasures,
their unique diversity of plant and animal life providing
a living textbook for ecologists and oglers alike!
|
With a total area of some 45,000 square
kilometers, and permanent population of approx. 13,000, the
Islands rely heavily on tourism. In 1959 the Galapagos Islands
celebrated the 100th anniversary of the publication of Charles
Darwin Origin of the Species, and became Ecuador’s first
national park, and the non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation
was established to assist in the preservation of the islands.
In 1978 UNESCO, underlining its universal value for mankind,
declared the islands a World heritage site.
The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of unrivaled beauty,
mystery, and amazing creatures – like no place on earth.
Welcome to an experience that is now available to you from the
simplicity of a number of smaller expedition ships, or even
the luxury of a new 100 passenger vessel, with gourmet cuisine,
aromatic massages and luxury pampering.
Whatever ship you cruise around these amazing islands, you are
comforted by the knowledge that your ship is designed specifically
to safeguard the precious environment you’ll be exploring.
